Antonio Azzato

The Venezuelan artist and creator of Italian-Spanish descent, Antonio Azzato, spent much of his life in Caracas, Venezuela, where he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Andrés Bello Catholic University. A few years later, he decided to complement his professional career by pursuing a Master's in Commercial and Marketing Management at the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid. However, his passion for art and design led him to study interior design at the renowned Parsons School of Design in New York, where he developed the various intervention techniques that are showcased in his works today.

Inspired by the iconic Las Meninas painting by Diego Velázquez, Azzato creates larger than life-size statues, fashioned in the shape of the Ladies in Waiting in the famous painting, that have been displayed on the streets of Madrid every fall since 2018.

A self-described citizen of the world, and passionate lover of art and design, Azzato lives and works in Madrid, from where he sends these universal icons all over the globe.

The Underwater Museum of Art is a permanent sculpture park located in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico off Grayton Beach State Park, in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. The museum’s exhibits lie within a mile of the shore at a depth of ~58 feet.
